Basil Thai Nudle Bar

Lunch break while shopping in Bangsar Village

Just to prove that I know how to spell "Noodle"

My order.
Clear Tom Yam Seafood With Flat Noodle 12.90
This is one of the better clear tom yam soups I've tasted for a very very long time.
How deprived. Sigh.

Mom's order.
Beef Noodle Soup 12.90
This tasted nice, but kind of ordinary.
The soup was nice though.

The place was pretty busy throughout lunchtime but service remained good. Which is a good thing =)

Fascinating Food: The Day Dinner Came To Visit

This happend a few weeks back.

Something you don't see everyday in an urban part of the city. I walked in to my house compound and as I was unlocking the door I spotted this:

Skinny, bald chicken in the city.
Perhaps an escapee from the bird flu epidemic?
I certainly hope not.

Another photo just in case my eyes were playing a trick on me.
Note that it's sitting right next to the barbecue pit (on the right)
Now that's fresh food.

In case you're wondering, no, the chicken did not become dinner. It got shooed out of the compound, but was back again the same night and the night after that. A few days later it was spotted wandering in the back lane. And then it dissaperard. Poor chicken little. =(

Yesterday I spotted a fatter, healthier chicken in the neighbourhood as I was driving home. It sort of looked like the same chicken, it seemed to the same speckled markings on its head but I didn't get a good look. Hopefully, it was. Either that or my neighbourhood is turning into a kampung. Or that I'm just being haunted by chickens. Anyone know if being haunted by ghost chickens is some sort of sign?

Peanut Butter Frosted Chocolate Cupcakes

Hmm that's quite a mouthful...

Anyway, when I finally found some time to bake...

I like cupcakes... they're so convenient to eat and they always look so pretty!

The chocolate cake base recipe is taken from my earlier chocolate fudge cake post. Fill cupcake cases 3/4 full of batter and bake till cake is springy or inserted toothpick comes out clean. I did cut down slightly on the sugar, since the frosting's pretty sweet.

For the peanut butter frosting, mix 1 cup creamy peanut butter with 1/2 cup icing sugar till smooth. Add a smidgen of milk if mixture seems too thick.

Ah, peanut butter and chocolate. Such and ideal combination.

Busy Working...

... or at least pretending to look busy =P

Managed to get myself an internship so not too free to blog. Will update as often as I can.

Probably not this weekend though, Saturday's Harry Potter Day =D

I now know the joy of Fridays.

Favourite Food: Chinese Fruit Rojak

I'm really, really so fabulously slow when it comes to tags. Ipohchai tagged me with this favourite food thingy months ago and only I'm doing it now. My apologies =P

This is one thing I really do miss when I'm in the UK and it's something that's like absolutely impossible to find there making it even more special. Delicious chinese fruit rojak with all the works. No where else in the whole world can you find just the perfect combination of rojak sauce, chilli paste and prawn paste.

And since I don't get to eat it so often I always order the 'special' large portion, extra deep fried 'yau char kwai' crackers. Gotta love that crunch! The 'special' portion also comes with pieces of boiled squid and dried cuttlefish! Such a wonderful blend of flavors. I feel like eating rojak now...

Ah well, there's always tomorrow =)

Rojak "Special" in a very filled styrofoam pack.

Transfer rojak to a bigger bowl for easier eating.

This is what you're looking for.

This stall's located in Damansara Uptown.
The guy's usually there from late afternoon till evening.

Other bloggers who submitted this Favourite Food thingy:

Am not naming anyone to pass this on to, as usual it's up for grabs to all. But do remember to link all the other bloggers that have participated.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend =)

Dim Sum

More Chinese food =D

Breakfast this time. Well brunch, actually. Since I've been back, my family has gone to this dim sum place for brunch every Sunday without fail. That's like 4 Sundays in a row? And every single time I've been there, the place has been packed, and the food has been good. Due to the huge number of customers the dim sum is always freshly steamed or fried. If you sit near the kitchen you'll see a never-ending supply of dim sum laden trays leaving to be served to hungry customers.

Tempting, no?

The classic 'Siew Mai'
(Steamed Prawn and pork dumplings)

Fluffy fried yam dumplings.

Fried prawn dumplings.

Fried carrot cake.

And a last look at the dim sum before it all becomes empty baskets.

Prices are pretty reasonable, all bamboo baskets are RM3.00 per basket, plated stuff and steamed buns range from about RM3.00 to RM 4.00. Easy parking, but might be a bit of a wait for an empty table. It's pretty warm in the shop though, so people usually leave straight after eating.
